ranking: 58

The Swan Valley is Western Australia's oldest wine producing region.

The area is best explored via the Swan Valley Food and Wine Discovery Trail – a 32 kilometre drive that incorporates 80 wineries, restaurants and breweries and more than 50 fresh produce stalls, art galleries, olive groves and heritage buildings.

Highlights of the area include:

  • Cellar door sales at up to 40 wineries including Houghton and Sandalford.
  • Extensive cycle trails.
  • Guildford Heritage Walk Trails.
  • Swan Valley River Cruises or horse drawn wagon trail tours.
  • Guildford Courthouse interpretive displays.
  • Boutique breweries and distilleries.
  • Shopping for antiques in historic Guildford.
  • Local produce including grapes, chocolates, olive oil, cheese and nougat.
  • The many art and craft galleries and studios.

In October every year the Swan Valley celebrates the people and the produce of the region during the Spring in the Valley Festival. Spring in the Valley is one of Australia’s largest and most popular food and wine festivals, celebrating community, wine, food, art and music.

Location: the Swan Valley is located 15 kilometres north east of the city of Perth.

The Guildford Heritage Markets at the Guildford Town Hall are the only true hand-made market in the metro area, in my opinion. I highly recommend a visit here as you make your way through to the valley. It's on the 3rd Sunday each month.

Plenty of quality boutique breweries for the beer lovers out there, and close enough to Perth to make a day or a weekend of it!

great location and closer to the city than you would think. my only gripe is that a lot of the quality restaurants are only open for lunches and not dinners...

Our family love to arrange bus tours with close friends and family...go to all the wineries, stop and Mash Brewery for lunch or Ferrels and enjoy the day. No special occassion needed just good company and good wines make for a great day out!
