Located just a short walk from Perth’s city centre, Kings Park is one of the largest inner city parks in the world. The iconic 400 hectare park overlooks the spectacular Swan River and features both cultivated gardens and natural bushland.
The entire Kings Park region holds special significance for the Noongar people of the south of Western Australia. They believe the Waugal rainbow serpent inhabited unique areas of the land, which were and still are, sacred to Aboriginal people.
The Lotterywest Federation Walkway extends 620 metres through the Botanic Garden along a combination of on-ground pathways and a spectacular elevated 52 metre glass and steel arched bridge that is suspended among the canopy of tall eucalypt trees.
The Botanic Garden opened in 1965 and features a significant collection of mainly Western Australian plants. The garden is unique as its focus is on local flora – Western Australian wildflowers are found nowhere else in the world.
The Synergy Parkland is a family recreation area that features a 75 metre long elevated walkway, a two-tiered island fort, large-scaled replicas of dinosaurs, a timber boardwalk and an interactive water misting forest.
Kings Park has more memorials, statues and honour avenues than any other park in Australia, including the State War Memorial. A guided walking tour is available.
The Aboriginal Art Gallery Kings Park overlooks the Swan River and Perth city. The gallery specialises in Aboriginal art and craft that is indigenous to Western Australia.
