His Majesty’s Theatre has been one of Western Australia’s most prominent heritage icons since it opened in 1904. The theatre was named after King Edward VII, who was the reigning British monarch in 1904 – the theatre is one of only two remaining His Majesty’s Theatres in the world.
The theatre continues to play host to an array of performance genres including ballet, opera, vaudeville, stand-up comedy and Shakespearean drama. The stage at His Majesty’s Theatre has seen an impressive host of performers throughout its history:

- Anna Pavlova
- Gladys Moncrieff
- Dame Margot Fonteyn
- Sir Robert Helpmann
- Katharine Hepburn
- Vivien Leigh
- Sir John Gielgud
- Claudette Colbert
- Rex Harrison
