The Kodja Place is a purpose built, interactive cultural centre that brings alive the stories of people of the Kojonup area. The centre is the result of the Noongar and Wadjela (non-indigenous) people working together in cross-cultural harmony. Hundreds of local volunteers helped to design and construct the Kodja Place in an effort to strengthen reconciliation.
The Kodja Place presents visitors with an interactive representation of the story of Western Australia’s Noongar people and the history of white settlement in Kojonup.
The centre depicts the evolution of Kojonup and the cultural, economic and geographic influences that have combined to make the district what it is today.
The Kodja Place is the winner of ABC Radio National’s 2008 Marvellous Museums competition. According to the Radio National web site, the qualities that won the Kodja Place the nation-wide competition include “a remarkable effort by a regional community to tell a truthful, common story of its evolution”.
