The Millstream-Chichester National Park encompasses 200,000 hectares and attracts over 20,000 visitors throughout the year.
The best time to visit the area is between May and August, when there is little rain and the temperature during the day is warm and moderate.
The Chichester Range rises sharply from the Pilbara coastal plain and plunges into tranquil gorges and hidden rock pools.
- The picturesque Python Pool is accessible by unsealed road and contains fresh water all the year round.
- The Fortescue River can be found further into the park and is accessible only by unsealed roads.
- The fresh water springs of the region have enabled the tropical growth around the area of Chinderwarriner Pool.
The area of land surrounding the Fortescue River is the homeland of the Yinjibarndi people. Ngarrari (Millstream) was an important site for inter-tribal meetings. The Yinjibarndi people continue to maintain close ties with their land and have been trained and employed as rangers and contract workers in the area.
The Millstream Homestead Visitor Centre provides an informative insight into the Yinjibarndi people, the early settlers, and the environment of the area.
There are no formal accommodation facilities within the park. Adequate supplies are required if spending extended time in the park and fresh water is available at the visitor centre car park, though it is not treated.
Location: the Millstream-Chichester National Park is located 150 kilometres south east of Roebourne, which is 1,563 kilometres north of Perth and 40 kilometres from Karratha.
