The Horizontal Waterfalls are located in Talbot Bay, which can be found in the Buccaneer Archipelago. The Buccaneer Archipelago comprises one thousand islands and is home to one of the most unusual sights of the Kimberley region.
The spectacular natural phenomenon of the horizontal 'two-way' waterfall is best viewed by air or charter boat. Twin gaps of parallel ridges that are part of the McLarty Range produce massive tidal movements that create a waterfall effect as water banks up against one side of a narrow cliff passage. The process is repeated from the other side when the tide turns, creating the unusual spectacle.
Scenic flights leave Derby and Broome on a regular basis. Sea safaris departing Derby also visit the falls.
Location: the Buccaneer Archipelago lies off the coast of Derby, which is 221 kilometres north of Broome.
