A journey along the Gibb River Road is one of Australia’s last true outback adventures.
The Gibb River Road follows what was once an old stock route and now spans 700 kilometres from Derby to Kununurra via the Cambridge Gulf at Wyndham. The area is home to vast cattle stations, wildlife sanctuaries, ancient landforms and fresh water holes. Six different Aboriginal languages are spoken along the road and the communities maintain many of their traditional and spiritual customs.
The road covers some incredible scenery and takes in a spectacular range of gorges:
- Windjana Gorge
- Tunnel Creek
- Bell Gorge
- Dimond Gorge
- Sir John Gorge
- Galvans Gorge
- Manning Gorge
The unsealed Gibb River Road is only suitable for high clearance and robust four wheel drive vehicles. Camping is available in designated areas. Or you can travel the Gibb River Road with a tour company.
Location: the Gibb River Road runs for 700 kilometres between Derby and Kununurra.
