Cossack was established in 1863 and was the first port of northern Western Australia. Located at the mouth of the Harding River, Cossack was originally known as Tien Tsin and it was once the bustling heart of the early pearling industry. Once established, Cossack soon became the major port for the pastoral industry and a centre for pearl divers.
Today, Cossack is a ghost town with a chequered past and many of the beautifully restored historical buildings and heritage trails offer a fantastic insight into the hardships and successes of some of Western Australia’s first settlers.
The Galbraith Art Centre in Cossack hosts Aboriginal artists at work and the annual Cossack Art Awards.
Point Samson is located on the eastern tip of the Dampier Archipelago. It is a tranquil seaside town that offers pristine beaches, beautiful coral gardens and abundant fish. The town boasts beautifully restored heritage buildings, resort accommodation, boutique style bed and breakfasts, a caravan park and holiday homes.
