The Wagin Historical Village gives visitors the opportunity to explore the areas history via a replication of Australian rural community life that spans two hundred years. The concept for the village began in 1978 and is run by a volunteer organisation.
The village incorporates fully restored and replica buildings, machinery and equipment. Highlights include:
- The Village Church – Wagin’s first church, built in 1894.
- Mrs Stevens Cottage – a replica of an 1880's cottage made from wattle and daub.
- The Bag Tent – settlers’ first ‘home’ made from hessian bags that have been stitched together and stretched over a frame.
- Prosser’s Blacksmiths – a working example of a blacksmith’s shop.
- Piesse's Trading Post or General Store – the first trading post in Wagin was established in 1889 by F and C Piesse.
Wagin is also the home of the infamous Giant Ram and the Woolorama.
Location: the Wagin Historical Village can be found on Showground Road in the town of Wagin, which is 228 kilometres south east of Perth.
