Gormley Statues at Lake Ballard
Rating
8.46
ranking: 37

In 2002, British sculptor Antony Gormley was commissioned to create ‘something different’ for the Inside Australia project of the Perth International Arts Festival.

Gormley chose the site – the salt expanse of Lake Ballard – and produced 51 striking figures made from steel and placed them across seven square kilometres of the stark white arena of the salt lake.

The project proved so successful that the statues were not dismantled when the festival ended and they now exist on Lake Ballard as a unique tourist attraction for the region.

Location: Lake Ballard is located 55 kilometres west of Menzies. Menzies is located 650 kilometres north east of Perth, or 130 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie.

its one of the strangest things to experience...to be in the middle of nowhere and see this art. It draws you in, and is well worth the drive out there.

These are strangely addictive. You will find yourself walking for kilometres from one statue to the next.

Something very unique. You dont see statues sticking out of a salt lake very often.
