Shell Beach
Rating
8.15
ranking: 54

Shell Beach is located off Shark Bay Road about 45 kilometres south east of Denham and is accessible to all vehicles.

The striking expanse of white beach is made up of billions of tiny bivalve Cardiid Cockle shells first thought to have been deposited in the area 4,000 years ago.

Shell Beach is one of only two in the world. It stretches for approximately 110 kilometres and is between 7 and 10 metres deep.

The shells were once hard packed, cut into blocks and used to construct buildings in the area, some of which can still be seen today in Denham.

Location: Shell Beach is located within the Shark Bay Heritage Precinct, which is 700 kilometres north of Perth, or 200 kilometres south of Carnarvon.
