Mullewa is situated in the heart of wildflower country, 100 kilometres east of Geraldton along the Midlands Road.
Mullewa is the perfect base to explore the best of the region’s wildflower displays – between August and November the town and surrounding fields are blanketed in carpets of colourful everlastings.
The Monsignor Hawes Heritage Trail celebrates the enormous contribution architect-priest John Hawes made to the region. The trail highlights 15 buildings of his design and other sites that were significant to his life. Mullewa is home to one of the best examples of his work: the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Peter and St Paul. The church took seven years to build and Monsignor Hawes was the architect, stonemason and carpenter of the building. The adjoining Priest House Museum is open from July to October.
Coalseam Conservation Park is located 34 kilometres north of Mingenew, via the Coalseam Road and is home to a variety of wildflowers. During the wildflower season, fields of pink, gold, cream and white everlastings transform the usually sparse understorey of wattle scrub. A drive through the area will also reveal magnificent views of Irwin River, Bindoo Hill and the historic Butterabby Gravesite.
De Grey Stock Route heritage trail follows the route first gazetted in 1905, commencing at the mouth of the De Grey River and finishing at Mullewa. The trail takes in three of the southern-most government wells and natural watering hole, Hughie Rocks.
Location: Mullewa is located 480 kilometres north of Perth, or 100 kilometres east of Geraldton.
