Cervantes and the Pinnacles
Rating

Cervantes is the gateway to the world famous Pinnacles in the Nambung National Park.

Highlights of the Nambung National Park include magnificent beaches, coastal dune systems, shady groves of tuart trees and heath land that is rich with flowering plants.

One of the best known attractions of the park are the Pinnacles: incredible natural limestone structures that stand up to three and a half metres tall.

The Pinnacles were created over time by natural processes that have combined to remove the surrounding material from ancient shells. The shells were broken down into lime rich sands which were carried inland to form high mobile dunes. And the result is a fantastic array of limestone structures that jut out from the surrounds.

The unusual formations appear other-worldly and are a particularly stunning sight in the glow of the setting or rising sun.

The Pinnacles are best viewed via the scenic drive (for light vehicles only) that is about five kilometres in length from the Pinnacles car park.

While you're there, make sure you check out the newly constructed Pinnacles Desert Discovery visitor and interpretive centre. The facility is jammed full of fascinating information and displays – all beautifully presented. The building was specifically designed to enhance the surrounding environment; free standing limestone walls represent the Pinnacles and vertical beams of Tuart symbolise the woodland.

Location: Cervantes is located 245 kilometres north of Perth and 260 kilometres south of Geraldton.

Great if you want to just get away and some of the best fishing in WA as it is the closest distance to the continental shelf!

I love taking visitors to WA for a day trip to Cervantes. The Pinnacles are a sight to behold, the beaches are stunning - and the new visitor centre is worth a look too!

Cervantes, great fishing location. Pinnacles is an eerie spot at sunset, you get hundreds of different pics every second as the sun goes down. Jloran

The Pinnacles - an alien graveyard of tombstones or a lost ancient city? Like desert stalagmites rising from the sand dunes - a must see!

Encountered some amazing wildlife - blue-tongued lizards, parrots, emu, kangaroo, pelicans & a huge stingray that took our fishing line!

It is the most unusual natural feature that WA has to offer. Mountains, hills, rivers, coastlines etc are seen all over the world. The Pinnacles are unique!

Such a unique place. Wasnt sure what to expect. The lookout is great - you can just see the whole land area covered in Pinnacles and even see the ocean
