101WA Photo Competition WINNER
Point Picquet, South West - by Ian Wiese
A spectacular photograph capturing the beauty of Western Australia’s south west coastline has been judged the best photo from the RAC’s 101WA website.
More than 650 photos were received for the competition which ran in conjunction with the RAC’s 101WA poll to determine WA’s favourite tourism destinations.
WA Tourism Minister, Hon Dr Elizabeth Constable MLA, judged the competition and awarded top honours to a photo of Point Picquet in the South West taken by Ian Wiese which she said clearly portrayed the brilliance of WA’s coast.
“The WA coastline is a long line of picturesque landscapes and Ian’s photo really emphasises this beauty,” Dr Constable said.
“The vivid colours of the sky, sea and rocks have helped create a photograph that demands attention and stirs up memories of childhood fun at the beach.”
Ian said his winning photo was one of a series he has taken of the coast between Dunsborough, Cape Naturaliste and Injidup.
“Lichen, which grows on the rocks, gives a distinctive look to the coast between Dunsborough and Cape Naturaliste. When taking the photo I was trying to bring out this aspect of the scene,” he said.
“I first visited Point Picquet 50 years ago when my father used to take us fishing there.”
Mr Wiese won a trip for two to Broome.
